Shoulf you avoid late night snacking to stay slim?

Scientists have recently said that late night snacking is not advisable is you are looking to stay slim and/or lose weight. But does it really matter when you eat as long as it’s healthy?

Whether its a bad idea to eat late is a very contentious issue. But after working with many clients over many years I think I have come up with the answer.

If you are eating healthy food late in the evening, for example snacking on fruit or another healthy snack, you will not put on weight. Your body will take the food and use the it just the same as it would do at any other time of day.

If however you are eating a main mail late in the evening, you are likely to gain weight. Eating carbs (carbohydrates) late in the evening is the worst choice of all and should be avoided completely.

Carbs are high in calories and will only be burnt off by doing something active. And if you are eating late in the evening it is likely you will simply sit on the sofa afterwards and then go to bed. I.e. you won’t burn off the carbs and they will end up turning into fat.

Today’s Takeaway- A small, healthy snack late in the evening is fine, but avoid main meals and especially carbs at all costs.
