Elle Macpherson – Excellent or Excessive Workout Routine?

Elle ‘The Body’ Macpherson is well renowned for her lean physique. But could you emulate her exercise regime? And is her exercise routine excellent or excessive?

One of Elle Macpherson’s workout routines contains the following;

500 sit-ups a day plus either a 5 mile cycle ride or a 40 minute run.

On the surface you may think is a tough exercise regime. But not only is it tough, but totally unbalanced.

500 sit-ups a day is without doubt excessive. Apart from leading to lower back pain, the only muscles being worked are the outer abs. This totally ignores the many other highly important muscles around the abs and core that need to be worked.

The cardio is not excessive, but without doubt would quickly become boring. Long, slow bike rides or runs is the type of exercise people are least likely to stick with in my experience.

And finally there is no upper body exercises at all in this workout. For maximum results you should be working every muscle group in every workout you do, and elle macpherson’s workout simply does not achieve that.
