

If ever there was a case of a small adjustment making a big difference to the effectiveness of your workout, this is it. Believe it or not how you breathe during an exercise is really important to the overall results you are going to get.
There is often a lot of hype about new exercises and new techniques and new everything!
Which is great, but sometimes I think the basics can be overlooked. And you know what they say about a house that is built on bad foundations don’t you! Well, it’s just the same with exercise.
Do you ever complete a set of an exercise an feel really out of breath?
This could obviously be because you are working really hard. And if this is the case then good on you.
However a lot of people breath really badly and incorrectly during their workouts. This means they are not out of breath because they are working particularly hard, but because they aren’t breathing properly and are gasping for air by the end of it!
There are 2 areas to work on;
1/ Static exercises, e.g. the plank. I find when doing a static exercise people tend to hold their breath for long periods of time. So after a while their are gasping for air and drop out of it (the plank). So force yourself to breath. Literally quickly and constantly in and out and that way you can’t go wrong.
